New Orleans Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium – Let’s Eat Bugs!

Bugs – Beautiful and Disgusting at the Same time

Have you ever eaten a bug, I mean, not just accidentally breathed in a gnat, but on purpose, as food?

Did you know that insects are a very sustainable source of protein, much more so than meat? Growing crickets for example, is 20% more efficient than cattle, and produces 80X less methane gas. We are going to eat crickets today.

The Audubon Nature Institute, which is not affiliated with the National Audubon Society, by the way,  operates several  museums, parks and research facilities dedicated to celebrating the wonders of nature. This day, at their Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, there were lots of school children perusing the creepy, crawly exhibits, and oftentimes shrieks would resound through the hallways, likely because someone just saw something gross.
