Mardi Gras!

2020 was my first time ever attending Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, but it wasn’t what I had envisioned. Excited at the prospect of experiencing in person this world-renowned festival, shock replaced anticipation after someone died at one of the parades.  Attempting to cross the street between a tandem float, they were caught, pulled down and run over. Not only once did it happen, but twice that week. That second incident occurred at a parade I was watching. The experience cast a cloud of concern over me in the subsequent days as I observed the many spirited revelers that demonstrated little regard for safety. I was glad to hear that for future parades additional precautions will be taken.
